I am a prime example that it is Never too late and all things are possible!
My Story
I developed an unhealthy relationship with food at a young age, but it escalated during my college years when I struggled with debilitating self-doubt and anxiety. To cope with my anxiety, I developed a binge eating disorder. This disorder consumed my life for the next 32 years and contributed to my diagnosis of Atrial fibrillation (AFIB ) at 50 and Congestive Heart Failure at 55. When I was 55, my cardiologist took me by the hands and said: Sandy, if you don’t get this weight off, you won’t make it to 60.
In that moment, I realized that if I wanted to survive, I needed to make drastic changes to my eating habits and seek help for my binge eating disorder. This marked the beginning of my journey towards physical well-being. However, as I embarked on this path, I discovered that without food as a crutch, my anxiety, fear, and persistent self-doubt intensified. It became clear that if I wanted to maintain my newfound health, I had to confront the emotional aspects of my life that had contributed to my binge eating in the first place.
As I embarked on the healing process, I had a profound realization: I had been living someone else's life, pursuing someone else's dreams. My life choices had been driven by a sense of obligation and societal expectations, which only fueled my self-doubt and chronic anxiety. It was then that I grasped the powerful connection between emotional well-being and physical health. By reconnecting with my true desires, I witnessed a remarkable shift. Prioritizing my own needs and aspirations allowed my anxiety to diminish and my self-confidence to flourish.
Although my journey has been far from perfect, the challenging times have taught me invaluable lessons about myself. During those dark days, I discovered the power of Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and, for the first time in my adult life, I didn’t feel broken or crazy! Through IFS, I cultivated self-compassion which has quieted the inner critics substantially. Additionally, I stumbled upon the wonders of hypnotherapy, a tool that enabled me to explore my subconscious and reframe negative, limiting beliefs into positive, affirming ones.
The combination of IFS therapy and hypnotherapy proved to be a turning point in my personal growth and transformation. Driven by this profound shift, I made the decision to become an IFS practitioner and a certified hypnotherapist so I could help others experience their own success.
Above all, I am passionate about guiding others through their own emotional transformations. There is nothing that brings me greater joy than witnessing others soar to new heights. My story serves as a testament that it is Never too late and all things are possible!
